Unpredictable Summoner Chapter 27
Chapter 27 – Aftermath
Kim Suho’s remaining mana hovered around 40 to 50 percent.
Fighting a high-level monster deep within the gate had drained his stamina. Mental fatigue had piled up so heavily that it was hard to keep focused.
“O-gong, raise a tall pillar right beneath me.”
The ground beneath him quaked violently, but Kim Suho didn’t lose his balance. Standing high atop the newly formed column, he looked down and called out.
“Charming, start it up.”
The domain of the King.
Charming activated her skill at the base of the broken fortress wall, where a large hole had formed.
These two skills had distinct effects: they gave allies with pure mana a regeneration buff, and afflicted enemies with corrupted mana with a weakening debuff.
The orcs glared at Kim Suho, releasing waves of bloodlust tainted with mana—but that was all they did.
That’s because the Hunters above level 40 had already descended from the walls and joined the frontlines.
The orcs ignored Kim Suho, swinging their weapons at the Hunters right in front of them.
With a light leap, Kim Suho jumped down from the column to the wall and drank another potion.
He moved swiftly along the wall, potion in hand, activating buffs as he went.
Charming kept up with him, spreading her skill across key areas.
A Hunter beside him blocked an orc’s attack that was aimed straight at Kim Suho. The sudden ambush had slipped past his dulled focus, the result of both mental and physical exhaustion.
“Thanks,” he said, giving a quick nod before moving again.
The longer the battle dragged on, the more orcs seemed to target him—but none managed to land a critical blow.
The Hunters were protecting him now.
They had noticed what Kim Suho—more accurately, his summons—were doing: boosting ally mana and weakening the enemies with a wide-area skill.
Green mana, reminiscent of forests and trees, seeped into the ground. It would’ve been strange not to notice it.
“Ugh, I feel bloated…”
He stopped drinking potions for a moment due to the discomfort, and Charming tapped on his chest pocket, signaling him to continue.
“Charming… I’m dying here.”
He gave a tired smile, trying to explain himself. But when Charming pointed to the Hunters still fighting hard below, Suho sighed and took another sip from the bottle, resuming his buff cycle along the wall.
— “Thank you for your efforts!”
At the end of the battle, Kim Suho collapsed to the ground, breath heavy, as Kim Hwarang, the operation commander, called out from below the fortress wall.
He had been downing one potion after another, all mint-choco flavored—the cheap kind, 20% cheaper than standard.
“Damn mint-choco obsession…”
There was a potion-maker so obsessed with mint chocolate that she flavored all her potions with it. Her potions were cheaper than average, which made them wildly popular among low-income Hunters—whether they liked the flavor or not.
Charming reached out toward the potion bottle with tiny hands, eyeing the last drops.
“You like mint-choco too? Why?”
Kim Suho sighed and tilted the bottle. Two small drops dripped out. But Charming shivered with delight, as if those two drops were heaven itself. Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at him.
“...Yeah, you worked hard too.”
He pulled out a rice bowl from his pack, poured the potion into it, and handed her a specially-made short straw—designed for demons.
With both arms raised, Charming sprinted to the bowl and slurped away, happily.
Suho just stared at her in a daze.
Two more summons returned from the frontlines.
Carrying a wooden gun in his holster, Gunma ran toward Kim Suho with both hands out.
Suho handed him a straw, and Gunma ran to sit beside Charming, sipping his mint-choco potion like it was a delicacy.
— Nyaang. (Good work.)
Sarang landed on Kim Suho’s head and purred.
“You too,” Suho replied.
— Nyaaang. (So… what now?)
Sarang promptly lay down on his head, her warm belly resting atop his scalp.
The soft warmth almost melted his face into bliss—but he quickly shook himself awake and looked around.
Some Hunters were smiling, others resting with pale faces.
His gaze fixed on a Hunter being carried out of the gate with help—severely injured.
Both arms and legs had been severed. But with modern medicine and healing-type Awakeners, those injuries were recoverable. The severed limbs were wrapped in cloth and laid atop his chest as he was transported out.
Kim Suho turned his head away.
Charming. Gunma. Soma—who had somehow swiped another potion.
“Charming, Soma, Gunma.”
“Let’s get back to work.”
Sarang perked up her ears on his head.
— Nyaang?! (I thought it was over?!)
“Not yet. Just keep doing your little paw-pressing thing.”
A supportive skill—a gesture of encouragement. When Sarang realized Suho’s eyes were on the emergency patients being carried out, she gave a small nod.
— Nyaaang. (Let’s finish it quickly.)
The three demons returned with their empty bowls.
Suho packed them away like clean dishes, and as the three familiars hopped onto his shoulders, he descended from the wall and headed for the gate.
He took another mint-choco potion and passed through the gate—returning to Earth.
Immediately, he looked around.
Red-cross tents, makeshift hospitals, and container clinics.
Suho headed straight for them.
High-level Hunters stood guard, ready to subdue any patients driven delirious by pain or trauma.
National emblems, guild insignias, and the Association logo were all visible.
Kim Suho approached a Hunter stationed at a tent—not a surgery room or container.
“Yes? At the moment, our medical staff can only tend to minor injuries…”
Suho pointed to Sarang.
“She has a skill that calms mental disturbances and suppresses psychic interference. She can help stabilize patients.”
Sarang politely raised a paw in greeting.
The Hunter stepped back in surprise—but Suho wasn’t done.
He pointed at Charming.
“She has mana regeneration and purification skills. She can cleanse corrupted mana and help stabilize vital signs.”
Familiars with healing support skills. The Hunter looked stunned for a second—but then nodded and rushed inside. The other two Hunters asked:
“Do you need anything from us?”
“Yeah. Potions. The tasty kind.”
Suho shook his empty mint-choco bottle left and right.
“Whew… I think that’s everything.”
In a briefing tent, Association Hunter Kim Hwarang massaged his neck.
The injured had been evacuated.
Poison orc corpses were gathered and quarantined.
Minorly wounded Hunters were placed on guard duty, just in case.
To determine whether the orc invasion was natural or orchestrated, high-ranking Hunters were dispatched deeper into the forest within the gate.
“…It was more dangerous than expected.”
“It was risky. Real risky.”
“But there were no casualties.”
“Plenty of serious injuries, though.”
Hwarang shook his head.
They’d avoided deaths, yes—but there were far too many severe injuries.
“Well, let’s look on the bright side. No one died.”
“Yeah. We should be grateful.”
He smiled faintly and nodded.
“Honestly… if Kim Suho hadn’t been there…”
The junior Hunter shuddered at the thought.
Without that summoner, the fight would’ve been hell.
It wouldn’t have even existed. That wall had been created by O-gong, Suho’s monkey summon.
Buff fields for allies, debuff zones for enemies?
Forget it. That was all Charming.
Ranged support? Fire spells?
Also Suho’s summons—Gunma and Soma.
What about the orc riders that scaled the wall?
They’d have wreaked havoc. Without Suho’s summons holding them back, top-tier Hunters wouldn’t have arrived in time.
“Truly incredible. And…”
People always say summoners hit the jackpot when they Awaken.
“Now I finally understand why.”
Hwarang shook his head in awe and asked his junior:
“So, where’s Kim Suho now?”
“Oh, he’s helping the medics outside the gate.”
Kim Suho had done more than anyone during the raid.
No one would’ve blamed him for resting now—but he was still out there, helping others.
Hwarang stood from his chair.
Tae-won didn’t ask where. He just nodded and followed.
They passed other Hunters along the way, nodding in quiet camaraderie.
Once through the gate, back on Earth, they scanned the area.
People bustled around.
Buyers had gathered to bid on monster corpses. Streamers and news crews lingered nearby, but Hwarang ignored them.
He and Tae-won made their way to the medical tent.
The national and major guild Hunters didn’t know them, but the Association Hunters did. Hwarang smiled and nodded in return.
“We’re here to see Hunter Kim Suho.”
“Oh, he’s making rounds through the surgery units right now.”
“…The surgery units?”
“Yes. The healing-type Awakeners performing surgery are suffering from severe mana depletion. There weren’t any deaths, but too many critical patients. They had to start operating without resting.”
So Kim Suho had been making rounds, casting support fields to accelerate their mana recovery.
Understanding dawned on their faces.
Hwarang and Tae-won stood at the entrance and waited—until they finally saw him returning, worn out, flanked by three sluggish familiars.
They raised their hands in greeting, quiet smiles on their faces.
