Colin Kaepernick is an American football quarterback who played for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He started playing football at a young age, and was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2011. After starting the first five games of the 2013 season, he was benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert. Kaepernick became a free agent in March 2014, and has not played in the NFL since November 2014. In October 2016, Kaepernick announced his intention to become a professional football player again by joining a team in the United States’ lower divisions.
In response to Donald Trump’s remarks about kneeling during the national anthem to protest racism and police brutality, Kaepernick created the “Kunta Kinte Shirt” as a tribute to his ancestors. The shirt features an image of Kaepernick wearing a green and gold African kente cloth outfit, with the phrase “I am not your slave” written on it. The shirt was released on October 27th, 2016, just days after Trump made his controversial comments about NFL players protesting during the national anthem.
The shirt quickly rose to popularity on social media, with many people praising Kaepernick for standing up to Trump. Nike decided to release their own version

- Crewneck Sweatshirt: 8 oz; 55% cotton/45% polyester. Air jet yarn for a softer feel and no pilling. 1×1 athletic rib cuffs and waistband with spandex;
- Unisex Hoodie: 8 oz 55/45 cotton/polyester. Air jet yarn creates a smooth, low-pill surface. Double-needle stitching; Pouch pocket; Unisex sizing.
