Luka Doncic is a Slovenian professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for Real Madrid of the Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. Doncic was the 2018 EuroLeague Final Four MVP, the 2018 EuroLeague Rising Star, and the 2018 EuroLeague MVP. He was also the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket MVP.
Doncic was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to Slovenian former professional basketball players Sasa Doncic and Mirjam Poterbin. He started playing organized basketball at age seven for Union Olimpija, before moving to Madrid at age 13 to play for the youth academy of Real Madrid. He made his professional debut for Real Madrid at age 16, becoming the youngest player ever to do so. In his first season, he helped Madrid win the EuroLeague championship.
In June 2018, Doncic was selected with the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, who then traded him to the Dallas Mavericks. He made his NBA debut in October 2018, and was named NBA Rookie of the Month for games played in October and November. Doncic was also selected to play in the Rising Stars Challenge at the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend, and was named the Western Conference Player of the Week twice during the 2018–19 season.
